THCP and CBDP: New phytocannabinoids in Cannabis Sativa
What you need to know about the two new phytocannabinoids and the difference to THC.
Cannabis sativa, known for its multitude of active ingredients, contains over 400 known substances, including about 150 cannabinoids. Among the best known are THC and CBD, which are valued for their therapeutic properties. Recently, however, European researchers have discovered two new cannabinoids: THCP (tetrahydrocannabiphorol) and CBDP (cannabidiphorol). 🌿
New discoveries
Research teams from Italy, consisting of scientists from the universities of Modena, Reggio Emilia, Rome and Campania and the Institute of Nanotechnology in Lecce, have identified these new cannabinoids. The study, published in the prestigious journal *Nature*, describes how THCP and CBDP were isolated. What is particularly noteworthy is that THCP shows a high binding affinity to the CB1 and CB2 receptors of the human endocannabinoid system. Click here for the study
CBDP: Promising
CBDP shares a similar chemical structure with the well-known CBD and is considered safe. Its chemical structure differs by having a longer alkyl chain, which may be responsible for stronger binding to CB1 receptors. While the exact biological activity of CBDP has yet to be researched, scientists speculate that it may have similar beneficial effects to CBD, including pain-relieving and anti-anxiety properties. Given CBD's known safety profiles, there is hope that CBDP will also have similar safe applications.
THCP: Unexplored and potentially stronger than THC
THCP, on the other hand, could be up to 30 times more potent than the well-known THC. During their research, researchers found that THCP has an exceptionally high affinity for CB1 receptors. This could mean that THCP could have stronger psychotropic effects than THC. Experiments on laboratory animals showed that THCP has similar pharmacological effects to THC, including pain-relieving effects and the induction of hypomobility and catalepsy. Nevertheless, the effect of THCP on the human body is still largely unexplored, and more studies are needed to fully understand its safety and therapeutic potentials.
Significance for medical cannabis
The discovery of THCP and CBDP could have a major impact on the world of medical cannabis. While CBDP is considered safe and promising
THCP may have stronger or more specific therapeutic effects than THC, opening up new possibilities for the development of medicinal cannabis products with improved properties.
Conclusion about CBDP and THCP
The discovery of THCP and CBDP is a significant advance in cannabinoid research. While CBDP is considered safe and promises positive therapeutic effects, THCP remains to be viewed with caution due to its potential potency and lack of research. 🎉
We look forward to future findings and hope that these discoveries can soon be used in medicine!
