Many older animals suffer from arthritis or joint pain.
Due to its naturalness and good tolerance, cannabidiol (CBD) can be used for dogs with arthritis and pain
According to experts, it can be used easily and without risk due to its great health benefits.
Researchers at Cornell University investigated the pain-relieving effects and safety of CBD in dogs.
"It was found to be able to relieve pain and increase the dog's activity. They found no short-term negative side effects. The conclusion was that CBD may be safer than the anti-inflammatories commonly prescribed for pain."
What is CBD?
The cannabis plant (hemp plant) contains numerous cannabinoids, more than 100 of which have been isolated by scientists in recent decades. This includes the cannabinoid CBD (cannabidiol). It has many properties that have proven to be very effective in pain therapy.
It is said to not only have a pain-relieving effect, but also an anti-inflammatory effect.
Many users who suffer from osteoarthritis now use CBD to relieve their pain, as CBD has no significant side effects, is natural and, due to its mode of action, also helps reduce the need for painkillers.
Compared to THC (tetrahydrocannabinol – the intoxicating part of the hemp plant), which is also a cannabinoid, cannabidiol is not psychoactive, which means that it does not have an intoxicating effect and is therefore also very suitable for pets.
Therefore, CBD and hemp products can be used excellently for dogs with arthritis and joint pain and are also increasingly recommended by veterinarians.
CBD products that contain less than 0.2 percent (0.3 in Austria) THC are not subject to the Narcotics Act in Austria and Germany and can therefore be purchased legally. However, the cannabidiol must come from countries in the European Union and from plants that were grown with certified seeds. These legal CBD products for humans and animals are available in Austria and Germany without a prescription.
Why does CBD work in the body?
Just like humans, pets have their own endocannabinoid system to which receptors are connected. These CB1 and CB2 receptors are distributed throughout the body, in the central nervous system as well as in the gastrointestinal tract. The body also produces endocannabinoids itself, which then interact with the receptors. However, these are often not enough, which is why cannabinoids have to be supplied from outside. If CBD oil is used, the CBD docks onto the receptors and stimulates them.
This process affects, for example, pain, mood, sleep and general well-being. If the body is supplied with sufficient cannabinoids, this has a positive effect on the various complaints.
CBD animal products are mostly offered as oils for oral consumption, as treats or in powder form. Other forms include CBD creams for skin, fur and claws.
We are not allowed to make any statements about the health effects of CBD and only report on the experiences of users and show reports from scientists, doctors and experts.
CBD for dogs with arthritis and joint pain
According to user reports and experts, CBD has already achieved good results in pain therapy for humans. Since cannabidiol is also very well tolerated, it is also used for dogs suffering from arthritis. More and more veterinarians are also specializing in CBD and recommend that pet owners use the herbal CBD for pets.
The focus here is primarily on the oral intake of CBD full extract oils.
CBD inhibits inflammation in the joints, which in turn leads to less pain. If the attacks are acute, the dose of CBD can be increased easily and without any problems and then reduced again.
Important for purchase!
Be sure to use products that do not contain high levels of THC, which are unsuitable for pets.
A special extraction process makes this possible with CBD oils for animals.
High levels of THC are unsuitable for cats and dogs. So when we talk about cannabis products for animals, we mean products that contain only hemp extracts and CBD and only minimal traces of THC (less than 0.2 percent).
How do I use CBD on animals?
In addition, CBD has a beneficial effect on digestion and the entire immune system, as well as on the skin and fur. Since dogs usually like the oil and lick it off your hand, it is very easy to administer and if a dog doesn't like it, it can also be dripped onto a treat. Our CBD Vet oils are combined with high-quality certified organic salmon oil and are therefore very well received.
You should start with a lower dose
CBD full extract oil . Normally a concentration of
5 percent is sufficient. However, it is important that it is a full-spectrum CBD oil because it also contains all the other important ingredients of the hemp plant.
Experts report:
Initially one or two drops a day.
After about three to four days, the dose can be increased to one to two drops twice daily.
Maintain this dose for three to four days so that the body can get used to the cannabidiol.
Observe your animal for a few days. If the symptoms improve, the dose can be maintained. If symptoms continue, the dose can be increased by one drop every three to four days.
The ideal dose is one to two drops of CBD per 5 kg of body weight.
No more than 3 drops per 5 kg of weight should be administered.
Are there any side effects?
Even if CBD is well tolerated, there can still be side effects. If the dose is too high, vomiting and diarrhea can occur. Or the dog may be extremely active and hyper. Then simply administer a drop more or less, it can work wonders. Just try it out individually and observe.
If the animal is given medication, experts recommend that there should be a gap of at least two hours between the administration of the medication and the CBD oil. Pregnant or lactating bitches should not be given CBD oil, even if cannabinoids produced by the body itself have already been detected in their mother's milk. No studies have been and are being carried out on these animals.
Does CBD become addictive or does it cause addiction?
CBD is not addictive in any way and you can stop taking it at any time. However, you should remember that the symptoms can return after you stop taking it. CBD cannot cure osteoarthritis, it can only relieve the pain.
Experience has shown that there is no habituation effect. On the contrary, in the case of acute symptoms, the CBD dose can be increased and once the acute attacks are over, the dose can be reduced. In contrast to almost all medications, which have to be increased again and again in order to achieve the desired effect.
Cannabidiol, according to numerous specialist reports and experts, is therefore an excellent alternative and therapeutic option to chemically produced substances, which can often cause undesirable, organ-damaging side effects.
CONCLUSION
For more activity, joy and quality of life in the often stressful everyday life of animals and their owners, CBD and hemp products provide natural aids for more general well-being, calm and relaxation.
