Oligomeric proanthocyanidins (OPC) are natural vital substances found in grape seeds and other plants that are known for their antioxidant, vascular-protective and circulation-promoting effects.

The positive properties are demonstrated by the "French paradox": people living in France suffer less from cardiovascular diseases than other European population groups, despite a rather rich and high-fat diet. This fact is attributed to the increased consumption of red wine in France and the oligomeric proanthocyanidins contained in the wine.

However, this is not a license for increased alcohol consumption: the positive properties of OPC are offset by the negative effects of alcohol; in addition, the OPC content in red wine is relatively low. For comparison: to absorb 330 mg of OPC - as contained in an OPC forte capsule - you would have to drink between 180 and 1,800 glasses of red wine, depending on the type of wine.

But it is not only the cardiovascular system that benefits from the natural plant substance.

OPC is also valued for its numerous other positive effects on the body. As a natural antioxidant, it protects against cell-damaging free radicals that can be caused by environmental pollution, stress, UV light, medication or exercise.
